A fabulous collaboration of Jerome Robbins (concept, direction, choreography); Arthur Laurents (book); Leonard Bernstein (music); and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics), this modern retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story debuted on Broadway in 1957. Larry Kert and Carol Lawrence sing the leads magnificently. Bernstein's instrumental ballet music for this show is probably as familiar as its many standout songs: "Maria," "Tonight," "I Feel Pretty," and "Somewhere," among others.
