Produktbeschreibungen
--Michael Rensen
Review by Greg Prato
Along with 1975's A Night at the Opera, Queen's 1980 chart-topper The Game is one of their best and most commercially successful records. But The Game was the polar opposite of Opera, composition-wise. Whereas their 1975 classic was completely over the top and bombastic (it included "Bohemian Rhapsody," after all), The Game was full of succinct songs that included their trademark hard rock and ballads, as well as styles previously unexplored by the band — funk, disco, rockabilly, and new wave. The album's success is obviously linked to its pair of worldwide number one singles, the Elvis Presley tribute "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and the contagious disco anthem "Another One Bites the Dust." Other highlights included the British hits "Play the Game" and "Save Me" (the latter being one of Queen's best ballads), the funk-rocker "Dragon Attack," the tuneful "Need Your Love Tonight" and "Sail Away Sweet Sister," plus the modern sounds of "Don't Try Suicide" and "Coming Soon." Although Queen would remain superstars throughout the rest of the world, The Game proved to be the band's last true hit studio album in the U.S.
